Dr. Shapiro's orientation focuses on identity, self esteem and relationship issues. He feels it is crucial
for each individual in a relationship to understand the other's view of the world. Everyone carries a world
view colored by their previous life experiences, particularly social interactions. In all relationships, this
is the basis upon which people anticipate, interpret and respond to each other. In treatment, the therapist
helps discover how an individual's previous relationships influence current interactions. And, how once these
patterns are identified, a person can begin to change his or her understanding of the world.
