Group Therapy
Many people think of group therapy as a means of getting therapy at a lower cost. It's true that Group
Therapy doesn't cost as much but there are clinical reasons for using group as a therapy medium.
Often, the interchange in a group stimulates a patient's thinking about him or herself. Also, one often
feels more comfortable knowing there are others who have difficulties too. This frequently leads one to
feel less reluctant to reveal oneself.
Many people have at least some difficulty being straight and truthful to others, fearing some sort
of retaliation but the ability to express one's true feelings is very strengthening and, much more
often than not, the feared calamity doesn't happen.
Group is a good way to treat social anxiety and shyness. In fact, a great many issues that can be treated
in individual sessions can also be treated in group.
If group therapy interests you ask about it at the Assessment Interview.
