Our Expertise
Many people thinking of psychotherapy do not categorize themselves in accordance with the diagnostic labels
indicated at the left. They simply know there is something not quite right and wish to see what can be done.
Or there may be a temporary crisis that needs attention. Some may have difficulties at work where close
quarters with fellow employees over a period of time can bring out personality characteristics which can be
a "turn off" to others. Or a promotion may have been lost due to poor performance, lateness, etc.
On the other hand, there may be a generalized feeling of low self-esteem - the famous "inferiority complex."
Or an inability to simply enjoy life which does not seem connected with depression symptoms. One can be caught
up in a confusion about what they want to do with their life or whether on not to marry a certain person.
Some may have a persistent fear that they did not turn off the coffee pot upon leaving the house. Others know
that something that happened in their earlier life has had persistent effects and have decided it's time to
do something. The issues that bring people into therapy can be legion.
In addition to all of this there is the question of severity. Do any of these, or other, issues restrict
one's life or simply form an annoyance that can be tolerated or even ignored? Or looked at as a habit that
needs focus and determination to break, such as a
nicotine or tobacco addiction or even a gambling addiction. Do they cripple one's ability to live a normal life? Most of the time
an evaluation by a professional psychotherapist can reveal which is which and that is what we do. The
categories on the left are just guides. If you feel you may fall into one of them, by all means check them
out. But you do not have to be severely depressed or anxious to call for help.
